For Montessori Teachers: Early Childhood General/Special Education Program
Concordia College holds a unique partnership with Montessori schools for its Master of Science in Teacher Education Programs.
Montessori teachers seeking a Master’s degree and New York State certifications in Early Childhood Education (Birth through Grade 2) and Students with Disabilities (Birth through Grade 2) are eligible.
To qualify, individuals must have earned a Bachelor’s degree and have previously completed any MACTE-Accredited Montessori teacher education program within ten years of admission.
Concordia College has agreed to accept a portion of equivalent graduate credits toward its 46-credit Master’s degree. Candidates in the Early Childhood track who wish to pursue a New York State Childhood Certification, Grades 1 through Grade 6, can qualify by taking additional coursework after the initial certificate has been issued. (Details of the individual candidate’s background will be explored during the Concordia interview.)
The programs are offered both online and on-campus. On-campus courses will be held weekly at West Side Montessori School (WSMS), located at 309 West 92nd Street, at West End Avenue. In addition, select summer classes are offered on the Bronxville campus.
CONCORDIA MASTER’S DEGREE BENEFITS
- Reduced tuition of $625 per graduate credit for the credits needed for the Master’s degree leading to New York State Certification. Total cost is extremely competitive with CUNY, SUNY, and is among the lowest private college graduate tuitions;

- Cohort model allows students to proceed through the program learning and working together;
- Upon completion of the program and all NY State certification requirements, candidates are recommended for Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Students with Disabilities New York State certifications.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The Montessori/Concordia Master’s degree aims to admit a cohort of approximately 20-25 students each fall and spring semester.
Admission is limited to qualified candidates who have:
- Completed a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA from an accredited institution of higher education. Undergraduate grade point averages lower than 3.0 require an individual review.
- Earned a Montessori credential from a MACTE-Accredited Teacher Education Program.
