Concordia College New York Athletics Department Supports CACC Presidents Council Decision to Delay Fall 2020 Competition

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (July 13, 2020) -- The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Presidents Council on Monday announced that intercollegiate competition will not occur during the Fall 2020 season due to safety concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision was made following a unanimous vote of the 14 CACC institutions. The vote followed lengthy conversations with key stakeholders throughout the conference.

The CACC is committed to providing meaningful seasons of intercollegiate competition for all impacted fall and winter student-athletes during the spring semester (commencing after January 1, 2021). Details of schedule formats and post-season opportunities will be announced July 21st.

"This decision was not made lightly," CACC Commissioner Dan Mara said. "Our presidents and athletic directors have had extensive conversations about what is the best plan of action for the safety and welfare of student-athletes, coaches and staff. A decision regarding how student-athletes can practice and prepare with their coaches during the fall semester is forthcoming."

Regularly scheduled spring sports are not affected by Monday's announcement, as they are scheduled to conduct their seasons as planned.

The Concordia College New York Athletics Department is in full support of the CACC Presidents Council decision to delay athletic competition during the fall semester of 2020.

Director of Athletics Kathy Laoutaris said: "The action to delay fall competition made by the CACC was an incredibly difficult decision that was made after numerous conversations about what is best for the health and wellness of our student athletes. This remains our top priority.  Our coaches and staff are passionately committed to creating the best student-athlete experience possible and Concordia will continue to work closely with the CACC Presidents Council on future plans as we move through these difficult and unprecedented times".
