Rising Sophomore Ebba Rosberg is ITA Rookie of the Year

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named Concordia College student Ebba Rosberg Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Year in their NCAAII National Awards, making her Concordia’s first player to earn the distinction.

Ebba's position as first singles meant she faced every opponent’s best player. A freshman might find that intimidating, but to say that Ebba rose to the challenge is an understatement. Her freshman year was one for the books. She was the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, after being named CACC’s Rookie of the Week four times and Player of the Week three times. She had 21 singles wins and 17 doubles wins, and earned a national ranking of 32 in the ITA singles rankings. She led a stellar Concordia women’s tennis team to titles in the CACC regular season and tournament.

A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Ebba is studying business at Concordia. "I really like it here," she said. "I appreciate my teammates and coaches a lot - they helped me both on and off the court. Hopefully, we'll be even stronger next year!"

As Head Tennis Coach of the men’s program since 1980 and women’s program since 2011, Neil Tarangioli has coached his share of players. He said unequivocally: “Ebba had a dream year that is one of the best I’ve ever seen.” He added that “Ebba is a pleasure to coach and a great teammate. I am very proud to be her coach.”

Assistant Coach Daniel Rockhill added, “I am so proud of Ebba. She is an amazing player and clearly her play caught the eyes of a national audience. She is certainly deserving of an award of this magnitude and we are blessed to have her for an additional three years. I look forward to seeing Ebba and all the players back on campus as soon as possible.”
