Beyond Tradition: Concordia Conservatory's Annual Musical Puts Inclusivity in the Spotlight

Concordia Conservatory's 24th annual holiday musical production of "A Christmas Carol" celebrated a triumphant weekend with three sold-out shows.

What sets this production apart is not only its rich history and tradition, but the emphasis on diversity and the inclusion of a neurodiverse cast member, Kathleen Moriarty. Kathleen’s journey from being a student at Bronxville School and now at Concordia Conservatory to becoming an assistant teacher and an Ambassador for the UNIQUE Concert Series for special learners is nothing short of remarkable. In 2022, Kathleen auditioned for the annual holiday musical, and to her surprise, landed three different roles—one being Mayor Mary Marvin. Encouraged by her success, she returned this year, securing the pivotal role of the Ghost of Christmas Present. Kathleen’s performance transcends traditional boundaries, adding a unique and captivating dimension to the production.

What makes this story truly exceptional is Concordia Conservatory’s commitment to inclusivity. The production provides a platform for area youth, regardless of financial situation or disability, to participate and shine on stage. By including neurodiverse cast members like Kathleen, the Conservatory aims to create an enriching and inclusive experience that mirrors the diversity of the community.
