Prior to the Pacifica Quartet concert at Concordia, the internationally reknowned violin pedagogue Almita Vamos will be joined by Simin Ganatra and Brandon Vamos of the Pacifica Quartet to give a masterclass to Concordia Conservatory students.

Almita Vamos is a graduate of the Juilliard School where she studied with Mischa Mischakoff and Louis Persinger. She has won the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching six times, the ASTA Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award, and has been featured in the New York Times best-selling book, Battle Hymn of a Tiger Mom by Amy Chua.
Mrs. Vamos is currently on the faculty of the Music Institute of Chicago and spends summers teaching at the Chautauqua Summer Music Institute. Her students play in many orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, and many others.
The Pacifica Quartet has achieved international recognition as one of the finest chamber ensembles performing today. The Quartet is the quartet-in-residence at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, received a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance, and was appointed to lead the Center for Advanced Quartet Studies at the Aspen Music Festival and School.
