Hello my name is Deborah Schmidt Hollrah and I am a proud 1985 graduate of Concordia New York. I graduated with a BA in Elementary Education and a Lutheran Teacher's Diploma. Since this point I continued my education and graduated from Western Connecticut State University with a MS in School Counseling.

Professionally I am an educator and work as a teacher and Guidance Counselor. On a volunteer basis, I am a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danbury, CT and wear many hats. I am a member of the Board of Lay Ministry, a co-coordinator of the small group ministry Supportive Hands, a choir member, a communion assistant, lay reader and a handler of the Comfort Dogs, Addie and Leah.

While at Concordia I knew that I would continue to be involved in church ministry in some capacity but never envisioned that I would be a handler of the beautiful dogs, Addie and Leah. I am honored to bring these dogs to nursing homes, private homes, and community events.

My experience at Concordia prepared me to be an organized, dedicated person whose passion is to continue to serve and help those in need. My favorite memory of Concordia is the continuous friendships I made and the caring close knit environment that Concordia provided for me. My advice for Concordia alumni and students is to follow your dream. Though at times, being an educator can be challenging but is rewarding at the same time.

In closing, I would like to share that Concordia left me with the lasting impression that a Christian education was essential for me. It reminds me that God is my refuge and strength and he is with me every step of the way.

PB&J (peace, blessings and joy),
