Concordia Conservatory embraces the philosophy that all children are musical and therefore can achieve basic music competence, and that the best learning environment is one that is playful, developmentally appropriate, and musically rich. Listening, singing, moving, playing percussion instruments, are key activities leading to reading and notating music. Through creative, engaging music play, children are given the foundation for a comprehensive music education and the tools to express themselves artistically.

Suzuki Program
In the Suzuki method, based upon the teachings of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, children learn the violin and guitar at their own pace, participate in ensembles, listen to recordings, and work with teachers in private lessons. Parents and caregivers also participate, attend lessons and classes, and supervise home practice. Students learn all elements of playing an instrument, including sight-reading, solo and ensemble playing, and creating a beautiful tone. Concordia Conservatory offers Suzuki instruction in violin and guitar for children as young as age three. As in the traditional method of instruction, students are given weekly private lessons with one of our faculty members. However, Suzuki students also attend weekly group classes to further develop their musical skills. The Suzuki method of music education is now a well-established pedagogical technique. Shinichi Suzuki, a western-trained professional violinist, developed the system to give musical instruction to the children of postwar Japan.
• Students age three and above may enroll in the Suzuki Program.
• The parent/caregiver is actively involved in all aspects of the child’s musical development,
attends all lessons and classes, and receives training to be a home teacher.
• No prior musical experience is necessary.
• The tuition includes a private lesson and one weekly group class.
